SC 8/256/12774
Date
[1401]
Description
Petitioners
John Butland of Scotland.
Name(s)
Butland, John
Addressees
King.
Places mentioned
Scotland.
Nature of request
John Butland of Scotland requests a safe-conduct for himself and six companions, with their horses and equipment, to come to England and remain there freely for a quarter of a year.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] This bill has been granted by the King and passed to the Chancellor to put into execution.[None on dorse].
Note
Rot. Scot., vol. II p.155 is dated 26 February 1401, and would seem to be in response to this petition. It would seem from this calendar that the safe-conduct is for a year, but Bain, vol. IV no.576 (19 May 1401, and a calendar of no.2613 of C 81/609) makes it clear that it is for a quarter of a year only, as requested by the petition.
