The Prior and convent of Stavordale state that long before the statute about putting lands and tenements into mortmain they were parsons of the church of Wincanton, where there was a vicarage, but that then, with the assent of the ordinary and the patron, because of the poverty of their living, this vicarage was united with the rectory, for them to hold to their own use; without, however, the permission of Edward III. They ask to be pardoned their entry into the purchase of the vicarage, and that their estate and possession of this vicarage might be ratified and confirmed, and that they might have and hold it to themselves and their successors for their own use.
