SC 8/255/12714
Date
[? c. 1479]

Thomas Mountgomery (Montgomery), knight, and Thomas Ursewyk (Urswick), knight, Chief Baron of the Exchequer.
Name(s)
Mountgomery (Montgomery); Ursewyk (Urswick), Thomas; Thomas
Addressees
King.
Occupation
Chief Baron of the Exchequer
Nature of request
Thomas Mountgomery and Thomas Ursewyk request the King's letters patent in a form which they give, granting them wardship of the manors, lands, tenements and possessions of the late Thomas Doreward, which have come into the King's hand because of the minority of John, his son and heir, to hold until John comes of age and for as long as they remain in the King's hand; and if the heir should die under age, that they might have the wardship from heir to heir, with the wardships and marriages of the heirs.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
People mentioned
Thomas Doreward, knight.
Note
Tentatively dated to c. 1479 with reference to C 140/73/75 and C 140/77/79. The inquisition for John Doreward (C 140/77/79) was not held until 20 February 20 Edward IV (1481), but that on Thomas Ursewyk (C 140/73/75 - if this is the same man as the petitioner) was held in November 19 Edward IV (1479). This petition was probably presented shortly before Ursewyk's death and came to nothing because of it.
