The petitioner states that he has been granted the administration of the bishopric of Coutances in the Channel Islands, since the current bishop of Coutances is a schismatic, and requests that the king order the officials of the islands to accept him as their bishop and pay him the tenths and other revenues normally due to the bishop of Coutances.

Note
A note on the front of the guard suggests a date of c. 1396, with reference to a letter to the petitioner of 2 March 1396 (Calendar of Papal Letters, IV (1302-1404), p.539), re-appointing him as administrator of the bishopric of Coutances. However, another note on the dorse of the guard suggests a date of c. 1400, with reference to an enrolment on the French rolls of 1 March 1400 along similar lines ('Catalogues des Rolles Gascons', II, p.179). The petition clearly dates from this general period, although the earlier date is probably slightly more likely
