Nature of request
The petitioners state that, when Wyche was burnt as a heretic at Tower Hill, the king ordered that no person should go to that place by way of devotion. However, the petitioners, who were there at the time of the proclamation and ordered to disperse, spoke presumptuous words to the officers and were arrested and thrown into prison. They have submitted to the correction of the Bishop of London, but still remain in prison, and request that they be released.
Nature of endorsement
[on face] The king has commanded me, his secretary, to inform the chancellor that he wishes to fulfil this petition, taking surety for their behaviour, and I have reported this by word of mouth. Bekynton.[on dorse] To our chancellor of England.

Note
The forfeited goods of Richard Wyche were granted to John Somerseth on 2 July 1440, presumably shortly after his execution, and thus this petition was probably presented at some point around that time.
