Name(s)
Hannemere (Hanmer), Matthew

Nature of request
Hannemere requests that the king take into his hands his case regarding his prebend in the cathedral church of St David's. He states that he was provided to the prebend by Pope Urban in succession to Sweneseye, but that Porter then falsely secured a presentment to the prebend from the king, and he was ousted. However, he recovered possession from the late bishop, and held it until Brugge, by virtue of the alleged resignation of Porter, again secured a presentment from the king. Brugge has since sued writs against Hannemere in the courts to secure possession, and the petitioner therefore requests that the king stop these proceedings and resolve the matter himself.
Nature of endorsement
[None]

Note
The chancery warrant with which this petition was probably formerly enclosed is dated 8 March 1390, which would correspond with the reference in the petition to the death of Bishop Adam Houghton (13 April 1389). The second ratification granted to Hannemere, issued on 26 July 1390, may well have been issued as a result of this petition.
