Occupation
parson of Drayton Beauchamp
Nature of request
John de Melton requests that the king investigate the circumstances relating to a dispute over the tithes from three fields in Helsthorpe, which he claims to be appurtenant to his church of Drayton Beauchamp. He recounts that a case was heard at the Court of Arches in London between his predecessor, Gilbert de Arcubus, and the Prior of Wing, proctor general for the Abbey of St Nicholas Angers, regarding these tithes, and that judgment was given in Gilbert's favour. The Pope has now ordered the Archbishop of Canterbury to confirm this judgment, but Walsh, as farmer of the priory of Wing, has disturbed Melton's possession. He has been ordered to appear before the Archbishop to show why the judgment should not be confirmed, but has now sued a prohibition against the Archbishop.
