Description

John filz Nicole (FitzNicholas) of London, esquire; Henry Vanner, citizen of London.
Name(s)
filz Nicole (FitzNicholas); Vanner, John; Henry
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Filz Nicole and Vanner recount that in the octave of Trinity in the eighth year of the King's reign [1385], by fine levied before Belknap and the other justices of the Common Bench between Cobham, Walworth (who died in December of the same year), Waltham, Exton, William son of Robert Cheyne, Rickhill, Bere, Brown, Leche and the petitioners, plaintiffs, and Brembre and Chamberlain, defendants, Brembre and Chamberlain acknowledged that the manors of Charles, Rowhill and Halwell and lands and rents in Dartford, Stone, Wilmington, Bexley, Crayford, Stanham, Darenth, North Darenth, South Darenth, St Mary Cray, Foots Cray, North Cray, Sutton at Hone and Horton Kirby were the right of Bere and held by the plaintiffs by their grant, for which cognition the plaintiffs granted and surrendered the said lands and rents to Brembre for life, with the remainder to the plaintiffs. Cobham, Waltham, Exton, Cheyne and Rickhill later released all their interest in the said lands and rents to the petitioners and Bere, and then Bere, Brown and Lech released all their interest in the same to the petitioners, their heirs and assigns, and although Brembre only had an estate for life in the said lands and rents, yet by the judgment against him in parliament at Westminster in the eleventh year of the King's reign [1388], they were seized into the King's hands. The petitioners request restitution of the said lands and rents, with the issues and profits received since Brembre's death.
