The lieges and community of Hythe request that whereas on 3 May last fire destroyed more than 200 houses in the town and port of Hythe and all the goods there, worth over £600, and five ships of the town with 100 men in them were lost at sea, because of which, and because of pestilences and other troubles, the people remaining in the town propose to leave, that the King release them for five times from their charge at the service of the Cinque Ports, namely of serving the King for 15 days with five ships with 100 men and five knaves in them.
