The prior and convent request that the king command his council to view the evidences of the king's right to present to their house, and that the king's sergeants be commanded to maintain the king's right, and command the earl of Lancaster to cease his suit of quare impedit against the sub-prior concerning the present prior.

The petition is dated to c. 1344 as the priory seems to have been in conflict with the earl of Lancaster in 1343, and had been so impoverished by the acts of evil-doers that the house had to be taken into the king's protection in April 1344 (CIM 1307-49, no.1864; CPR 1343-5, p.252).
