The prior and brothers request that the king renounce any claims that he has in the church of Ellesmere deriving from the reversion of the advowson to him and his predecessors by the deaths of the prince of Wales and his wife without heirs as they have held it for 120 years as the prince and others affirmed. They also request the repeal of the king's presentation to the church.

The petition dates to 1348 as the privy seal warrant with which it was formerly enclosed dates to 18 April 1348 [22 Edw. III] (C 81/330/19468).The matter was not finally resolved until 28 November 1349 when the king finally renounced all claims (CPR 1348-50, pp.86, 428).
