Nature of request
[Petition in 15 parts:]1) The jurats and commonalty request that the king grant to them that they and the merchants who purchase their wine be quit of the custom due to the king, the earl of Lancaster having granted them this when he was lieutenant.2) It is requested that the letters of the earl of Lancaster's letters granting them a levy on each tun of wine passing down the river Garonne by their town for the fortification of their town be confirmed.3) It is requested that the letters of the earl safe-guarding their customs when the town came to the king's obedience be confirmed.4) They request that they be paid the money granted to them for the damage done when the earl of Lancaster's host entered the town.5) They request that they be received to remain with the king for all time.6) They request that the letters of King John granting them the right to sell their goods throughout the king's land paying no customs in the same manner as those of Bordeaux be confirmed.7) They request confirmation of an accord made between them and the people of Bordeaux.8) They request that they be granted letters that they be quit of any custom when selling their wines in Bordeaux as they have always been quit but the jurats and mayor now charge them.9) They request that Doat de Gardonne be granted a pension.10) They request that it be confirmed that they can have the bladerie of the town after the death of Raymond Seguin.11) They request that they be quit for all days of all manner of peage on their wines shipped in their own ships or others on the Garonne.12) They request confirmation of the letters made in settlement of the dispute between the people of the city of Agen on the one part, and the people of their town and those of St Macaire concerning portage on their ships passing down the Garonne past La Reole.13) They request that the king grant a pension to Vilet, their messenger to the king for his good service, the pension to be taken on the profits of the bastide of Miramont.14) They commend the lord of Pommiers.15) They request that the king listen to the requests of the Bonet de Pins and the others who worked most to bring the town to the king's obedience.1)
Nature of endorsement
Concerning the first and second articles it pleases the king that the letters of the earl are viewed and confirmed under the king's seal, and that they are enlarged in the manner requested to include burgesses and inhabitants and wine produced in their jurisdiction and the merchants purchasing their wine.2) Concerning the second and third articles the king wishes that the letters be viewed and confirmed.3) Concerning the fourth article let a warrant be made to the constable of Bordeaux to make payment.4) Concerning the fifth article let the town remain forever to the king and his heirs.5) Concerning the sixth article let the charter of King John be viewed and confirmed, and the king wishes to be certified on the rights granted to the city of Bordeaux.6) Concerning the seventh article it pleases the king that the accord be viewed and held and an order be made to the seneschal and constable.7) Concerning the eighth article it pleases the king that the burgesses and inhabitants are able to take their wines to Bordeaux and have their profit as freely as they anciently have and let a suitable order be made upon this.8) Concerning the ninth article concerning Master Doat, the king wishes that he be retained in the king's council and receive £10 pension annually by the hand of the constable for his life.9) Concerning the tenth article of the bladerie the king wishes that after the death of Seguyn they should have it as they ought.10) Concerning the eleventh article it is considered that this ought not to be granted.11) Concerning the twelfth article it is granted that the accord be viewed and held and let orders be made to the seneschal and constable.12) Concerning the thirteenth article it is granted that he be retained for his council and receive £20 per annum for his life in the manner requested in the petition.13) Concerning the fourteenth article concerning the lord of Pomers and his good recommendation.
