Date
[? 1337]
Description
Petitioners
William de Cusaunce, clerk.
Name(s)
de Cusaunce, William
Addressees
King.
Places mentioned
Guyenne, [France]
Ponthieu, [France].
Nature of request
Cusaunce requests that the king will command by his letters to the chancellor to amend the patent granted to him by the king when he returned from overseas pardoning him the account from the time that Cusaunce was keeper of the Wardrobe of the king when he was earl of Chester. Cusaunce has been charged for a sum received to the earl's use for his passage to France, and which was not specifically mentioned in the patent.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Note
The dating of this petition presents some problems. The secret seal warrant with which the petition was apparently enclosed dates to 18 April 1337 [11 Edw. III], but there is an enrolled pardon on the patent rolls that appears to pardon the petitioner for what is requested in the petition, but which dates to 20 April 1334 (C 81/1330/40; CPR 1334-8, p.41). The date of? 1337 has been adopted based on the dating of the secret seal warrant.
