Clavering to Halifax: when he arrived at Wabern, he was informed that the landgrave of Hesse had resolved to travel to Italy to see the pope and France to solicit the return of his artillery. His ministers tried to dissuage him, telling him of the necessity of assembling the states of Hesse and that the kings of Britain and Prussia were trying to have him made an elector. His desire to be made king of Poland. It is now thought that the journey will be postponed. Dated at Cassel. ff. 183-186
