Six sheets of drawings of proposed fortification for Short Hills, Upper Canada, received at the Ordnance Office with letter no 199 of 20 November 1840 from Lieutenant Colonel W C Ward, Commanding Royal Engineer, to the Inspector General of Fortifications. (44) No 1: 'Sketch of the Principal Roads in the Niagara District Shewing... the Site of the "Proposed Fortress" The Numbers under the Name of each Village Shew the Number of Houses in each - The Divisions coloured are townships': plan showing part of northern coastline of Lake Erie, part of southern coastline of Lake Ontario west of the Niagara River, settlements, military barracks, roads, railways, waterways and hills. Scale: 1 inch to 1 mile [1: 63,360]. Compass indicator. Copied by Lieutenant Hampden C B Moody, Royal Engineers, 20 November 1840, from a plan signed by P J Bainbrigge, Lieutenant, Royal Engineers,16 September 1840. (45) No 2: 'Short-Hills ...'. Plan showing lots or grants of land and extents of forested and cultivated land. Reference note. Scale: 1 inch to 440 feet. Compass indicator. (46) No 3: 'Short-Hills... (48) No 5: 'Plan of the Ground Floor of a Casemated Reduit to contain the Garrison Provisions and Stores ...'. Reference table. Scale: 1 inch to 40 feet. (49) No 6: sections relating to plan numbers 4 and 5. Scales: 1 inch to 40 feet and 1 inch to 80 feet; as per (47) and (48). All signed by Captain Vincent Biscoe, Royal Engineers, 5 November 1840; and by W C Ward, Royal Engineers, 10 November 1840.
