Eleven sheets of drawings of works at St John's, Lower Canada, (now in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada) originally made to accompany estimate of 15 August 1840 from J Oldfield, Lieutenant Colonel Commanding Royal Engineer. (16) No 1': 'Sketch of the position and plan of defilement of the proposed work at S t John's L.C'. Scale: 4.5 inches to 700 yards [1:5,600]. Compass indicator. Signed by Lieutenant P J Bainbrigge, Royal Engineers, 29 May 1840. (17) No 2: 'General Plan of Proposed Works... as called for by Col. Fanshawe's letter N o.1587 dated 19 th March 1840...': plan and sections. Scale: plan 1 inch to 100 feet [1:1,200]; sections 1 inch to 10 feet [1:120]. Compass indicator. (18) No 3: basement plan of proposed work. Scale: 1 inch to 20 feet [1:240]. (19) No 4: upper floor plan of proposed works. Scale: 1 inch to 20 feet [1:240]. (20) No 5: plan of platform or top of proposed works. Scale: 1 inch to 20 feet [1:240]. (21) No 6: sections through a drawbridge at the proposed redoubt. Scale: 1 inch to 10 feet [1:120]. (22) No 7: plan and sections of a drawbridge at the proposed redoubt. Scale: 1 inch to 10 feet [1:120]. (23) No 8': plan and sections of the proposed privies. Scale: 1 inch to 10 feet [1:120]. (24) No 9: section through the powder magazine and glacis at the proposed redoubt. Scale: 1 inch to 20 feet [1:240]. Signed by Bainbrigge. (25) No 10: section through the caponnière and glacis at the proposed redoubt. Scale: 1 inch to 20 feet [1:240]. Signed by Bainbrigge. (26) No 11: section through the drawbridge, branch parapet and glacis at the proposed redoubt. Scale: 1 inch to 20 feet [1:240]. Signed by Bainbrigge.
