Description

Sussex:. Plan of Rye Battery showing the gunners' quarters and 'old poor house'. The boundary of the property, the magazine, the gaol, the store and the flag staff are also shown. Reference table. Scale: 1 inch to 80 feet. Initialled 'W.B.T'. Signed by R Howes CW, Royal Engineers' Office, Hythe, 25 August 1848 and by Captain Alexander Gordon, Royal Engineers, 26 August 1848. Originally accompanying a return of land property dated 31 August 1848 by Lieutenant Colonel William Burton Tylden, Royal Engineers, Dover to the Inspector General of Fortifications.
