Kent. Plan of land belonging to the Ordnance and the Quarter Master General at Shorncliff showing barracks and martello towers. Hedges, roads, batteries, the Royal Military Canal and part of Sandgate Town are also shown. Reference tables and notes. Scale: 1 inch to 4 chains. Compass indicator. Signed by R Howe CW, Royal Engineers' office, Hythe, and Captain Alexander Gordon, Royal Engineers, 14 July 1848, and by Lieutenant Col onel W B Tylden, Royal Engineers 31 August 1848. Originally accompanying a return of land property dated 31 August 1848 by Lieutenant Colonel William Burton Tylden, Royal Engineers, Dover to the Inspector General of Fortifications.
