Hampshire. Two plans of Gosport showing (26) the relative position of Charles Fort and (27) the land on which it stands. Roads, buildings, Portsmouth harbour, the line of a proposed floating bridge are also shown. Reference note on (27). Scales: (26) 1 inch to 400 feet; (27) 1 inch to 24 feet. Compass indicators. Signed by George H Lancaster 18 April 1849. A note on (26), signed by George H Lancaster 18 April 1849, reads 'Traced from a map of Alverstoke'. Both plans are annotated 'To accompany Col Lewis' return dated 19th April 1849 as per circular dated 20th June 1848' signed by Colonel G G Lewis. Originally accompanying a report dated 3 May 1849 by R Byham, 84 Pall Mall, London, to the Inspector General of Fortifications. Dimensions of sheets: (1) 46 cm x 34 cm; (2) 46.5 cm x 34 cm.
