Cape Colony: East London (now in Eastern Cape province, South Africa). Plan: '... Sketch of Magazine and enclosure... shewing the Guerite [i.e. sentry box or watch-tower] proposed by the Commg Royal Engineer with reference to Depy Qr Mr Genls [Deputy Quartermaster General's] letter, 8th September 1853'. Scale: 1 inch to 8 feet. Compass indicator. Drawn by Sergeant G Dadswell, Royal Sappers and Miners. Signed: Major C D Roberston, Commanding Royal Engineers, 28 November 1853; Lieutenant Colonel P Cole, Royal Engineers, 13 December 1853; and Captain R Tylden, Commanding Royal Engineer. Approved by the Honourable G Cathcart, Governor and Commander-in-Chief.
