Cape Colony: East London (now in Eastern Cape province, South Africa). 'Plan Elevation and Section of proposed Barracks for 16 Surf Men at East London To accompany Special Estimate Amounting to £269:11:7½': sheet also bearing a site plan. Scale: 1 inch to 88 yards [1:3,168] (site plan); 1 inch to 8 feet [1:96] (remainder). Copied by Sergeant G Dadswell, Royal Sappers and Miners, 19 August 1853. Signed: Captain R Tylden, Royal Engineers, 20 August 1853; and Lieutenant Colonel P Cole, Royal Engineers, 27 September 1853. Originally enclosed in a despatch from the Governor dated 12 October 1853; this despatch is not preserved at the parent reference and could not be found in CO 48/339.
