British Kaffraria (now part of Eastern Cape province, South Africa): King William's Town. '... Sketch of Guard House and Redoubt proposed to be constructed... by Order of His Excellency the Commander of the Forces dated 31st August 1853, to accompany Special Estimate amounting to £381:4:0': sheet bearing a general plan and sections, and a plan showing the framing of the gallery. Scale: 1 inch to 10 feet. Drawn by Lieutenant N W Duff, Royal Engineers. Signed: [Captain] R Tylden, Commanding Royal Engineers, 30 November 1853; Major C D Robertson, Commanding Royal Engineers, 5 December 1853; and Lieutenant Colonel P Cole, Royal Engineers, 13 December 1853. Approved by the Honourable G Cathcart, Governor and Commander-in-Chief. Originally enclosed in a despatch from the Governor dated 18 December; this despatch is not preserved at the parent reference and could not be found in CO 48/339.
