Description

The records in this series are drawn from the various departments of the Board of Stamps and include a few which continued in use successively in the Board of Stamps and Taxes and the Board of Inland Revenue.

The books deal principally with accounting, establishment and legal matters and include a volume of law opinions in lottery cases 1787-1799; detailed instructions to distributors of stamps in 1811 arising from the legacy duty; and a register of town newspapers 1816-1844 giving names of printers, publishers and proprietors. There is also an early eighteenth century entry book containing reports etc. to the Treasury concerning the work and establishment of the board, and some returns, 1812 to 1825, relating to wills and death duties.
