IR 24
1799-1963
This series contains registers of redemption certificates from the Land Tax Redemption Office.
For a number of years prior to 1905 many contracts contain plans but where there are no plans it is now often impossible to identify the property exonerated owing to vague and imprecise descriptions.
The certificates were numbered serially up to about 400,000.

From 1905 until March 1950 redemptioners were required to provide plans showing the property to be exonerated on redemption. Plans were dispensed with and the form of the Redemption Certificate was simplified for redemptions initiated subsequent to the 31st March 1950 for the introduction of Compulsory redemption by Part V. of the Finance Act, 1949 (12 and 13 Geo. 6 c.47. 30.7.1949).
