SC 8/240/11988
Date

Description
Petitioners
William (Guilhem) Arnold (Arnaut) de Saubynhak, son of William (Guilhem) Arnold (Arnaut) de Saubynhak.
Name(s)
de Saubynhak, William (Guilhem) Arnold (Arnaut)
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
William Arnold de Saubynhak states that, because of a loan which his father made to the King's father, at the time when Itier de Engelesme was Constable of Bordeaux, he was given the office of Provost of Bayonne, to hold until he had recovered his money. But when the late King delivered the Duchy to the King of France, his people took this office into their hands, and then when it came back into English hands, John de St John, then Seneschal of Gascony, took the issues to enclose the town, so that William Arnold is still owed money. He asks that he might have the office of Provost of Bayonne again, or some other office, to hold until he has recovered his debt.
Nature of endorsement
The Seneschal of Gascony and Constable of Bordeaux are to be ordered that, when they have examined the letters of the Earl of Lincoln mentioned in this petition, they are to inquire whether, of the sum owed at the time of the making of these letters, anything has been paid between then and now, or if satisfaction has been given to him in any way for it. And they are to have him paid what is in arrears of this sum as quickly as possible, from the issues of the town of Mezin, to him . . . ., notwithstanding the King's commands to the constable to deliver all the issues of the Duchy of Aquitaine to the merchants of the Frescobaldi.
