Nature of request
William Burgeys of Winchelsea states that the lands and tenements that Robert de Langherst, son and heir of John de Langherst, who is underage and in William's wardship, had in the moor of Iham, where the new town of Winchelsea is built - which are contained in a schedule which William has - were seized into the King's hand by John de Kyrkeby, late Bishop of Ely and Treasurer of England, for the building of the new town, and that no compensation has been given for them. He asks that the foreign tenants belonging to the manor of Iham might be restored to Robert, with their rents and services, or that compensation might be given to him in some other way. He also requests the arrears of the rents and issues of these lands.
