Nature of request
William de Tekene states that he came to the fair at Torhout with twenty-four sacks of wool belonging to himself and to Philip de Cayso, and that he was set upon, beaten and wounded there by people procured by Botyn de Colyngham, Everard de Loveyne, John de Torveye and Richard his brother, so that he fled in fear of his life, and did not dare to return for his wool. Botyn and the others then complained to John de Namur, brother of the Count of Flanders, and had the wool arrested for money that they claimed he owed them, although he did not, and he will lose his wool unless he comes on a day which is very soon. He asks the King to write to John de Namur, lord of the fair, asking him to deliver their wool, and that they might come to fetch it without danger and stand to right according to the customs of the fair.
