Nature of request
The burgesses of Melcombe state that the King had appointed certain justices to inquire into the right of the King and his burgesses in the port and haven of Melcombe, as there is a dispute on this matter between the King and burgesses on the one hand, and Elizabeth de Clare, Lady de Burgh, on the other, and the burgesses have heard that Lady Elizabeth is intending to purchase a supersedeas to obstruct that inquisition. They therefore request letters under the privy seal to the Chancellor not to grant any such supersedeas or to associate any other justice with those already assigned, or to repeal this if it has already been done, so that the justices can proceed to hold their inquisition.
