Nature of request
The Abbot of Bec Hellouin states that when the villeins of Ogbourne rose up against him and his ministers, refusing to perform the services and customs due from them, he was too afraid to seize them or to do justice on them, and petitioned the King form justices to inquire into their estate and their behaviour, and the manner in which they held their lands. They justices assigned by the King have now held their inquisition, and he asks the King to order the Chancellor to ordain a suitable remedy according to its findings.

Formerly enclosed with no.5198 of C 81/187.The inquisition in CIM 1307-49 no.1269 was held on the Friday after the Circumcision 5 Edward III (the Friday after 1 January 1332), and from the names of the justices, is clearly the one mentioned here.The commissions in CPR 1330-4 p.299 and 347 are dated 18 May 1332, that on p.501 is dated 7 September 1333, and that on p.583 is dated 16 July 1334.
