Nature of request

The Carmelite friars of Ardee state that Ralph Pypard, formerly lord of the manor of Ardee, granted them certain alms from that manor. He then surrendered it, together with his other lands, to the King's grandfather. They petitioned him, and he granted them £6 for the alms, to be received from the Dublin Exchequer. They were paid this during his time, and Edward II also granted them the alms, and when he gave the manor to John de Birmyngham, Earl of Louth, they continued to receive it. After his death the manor was taken into the hand of the present King because of the minority of the heir, and the alms have been in arrears since the Earl's death, that is for three years. They ask the King to confirm these alms, and to send a writ to the Treasurer and Chamberlains of Ireland to pay them, with arrears. They also ask him to grant them an estate in these alms, so that they have no more need to come to England to seek them at great expense.
