Nature of request
John, son of John de Cherleton, states that while he was out of England on the King's service, Thomas Retherik brought an assize of novel disseisin against him before the justices of Shropshire concerning various tenements [in Montgomeryshire], in order to convict him in his absence, have him imprisoned, and disinherit him. He asks the King to send his letters to the Chancellor to issue a writ to the justices to adjourn the assize while he is in the King's service.
