Mayor, jurats and community of Dax.

Nature of request
The Mayor, jurats and community of Dax state that their city is greatly depopulated by war and pestilence, and ask that the people of the adjoining parishes of St Vincent and St Paul might contribute to the guard, aid and defence of Dax, and that they might be excused from contributing to any other aid, and from going on any expeditions except with the Mayor and community of Dax, and that they might be sworn to them. They also ask that they might have first cognisance over these parishes, and courts and jurisdiction for all manner of demands and trespasses, except the execution of high justice which belongs to the King; saving the rights of the lords from whom they hold.
Nature of endorsement
What is requested in this petition pleases the King, provided that this is not to the prejudice of the other lords, and that it is done with the assent of the parishioners of the said towns named here.
