Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Geoffrey Dabetoft states that he was long imprisoned for the quarrel of the Earl of Lancaster, and finally released on mainprise, but could find no mainprise until he had made fine in court of his manor of Redmarley D'Abitot in Worcestershire to Hugh le Despenser the son - under duress, as he is ready to aver by all the best people of the neighbouring counties. And after Hugh's death, John de Sapy claimed that he had done it willingly, so that he would not enjoy the benefit of the quarrel, or be reinstated as one of the quarrel, and had the King grant the manor to him. Geoffrey asks to be restored to his manor, so that he might not lose his land through false claims, as the King has graciously granted to those of the quarrel, and that what is just and reasonable might be done to him; or that the King might take the manor back into his hand until the matter has been decided by the court.
