Nature of request
Roger de Wolsthorp and Henry de Tiddeswell, merchants, state that they and others lately took the King's customs at farm and owed various sums of money to various people on the King's behalf for various prises, and that the King owes them a certain sum of money on their account for this. He assigned Walter de Chiryton and Thomas de Waulond, the present farmers of his customs, to pay the petitioners from their farm, and they came to London to account for this with them, but have been arrested and thrown into prison at the suit of the same people to whom they and their companions are indebted. None of their companions will help them, so that the whole debt is demanded from them. They ask the King and council to send letters under the privy seal to the King's council in England to compel all those who were farmers to help to pay these debts, so that each of them bears an equal charge, and that each of them might receive from the sum owed by the King what is found to be due to him in his account. They also request letters under the privy seal to the council that if any of their companions should wish to complain of a wrong done to them, that a remedy might be provided in accordance with justice.
