Nature of request
The merchants of Lucca, treating for the release of Robert de Bradeston, John de Seint Philebert and their companions, who were captured and imprisoned in Pisa last March, make at least three requests:1) They ask that they might no longer be held for any person of the realm of England being captured, attached, robbed or injured in any way in person or property overseas, unless this was done in the city of Lucca, by citizens of Lucca, under obedience to the community of Lucca.2) They request an action against all merchants of Lucca in England and their associates, companions and agents of whatever nationality, and those who will come here hereafter, to make arrests against them to pay the ransom for this release, as it will be adjudged by four or six good merchants of Lucca living in the city of London, each according to his proper share; and that this money should be given to the merchants who are dealing with the release; with provisions against those who withhold goods.A fragment of a third petition can be seen.
