Nature of request
The monks of Mendham priory state that they and their Prior are English and of the foundation of the ancestors of William, son and heir of Roger de Huntyngfeld, currently under age and in the King's wardship, and that they make no payment or contribution overseas, but only a pension of half a mark to the Prior of Castle Acre in England; but that nevertheless, the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer have been ordered to seize their priory into the King's hand as alien. They ask that the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer might be ordered to inquire into the truth of this, and, if they find that it is as they say, they might leave them in peace and hold them quit and discharged.
