Reference
SC 8/238/11856
Date
[? c. 1309]
Description
Petitioners
Llywelyn ap Iorwerth, King's free man of the county of Anglesey.
Name(s)
ap Iorwerth, Llywelyn
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Anglesey, [Wales]
North Wales
Scotland
Aberffraw cantref, Anglesey, [Wales].
Nature of request
Llywelyn ap Iorwerth states that he has served the King in his wars in Scotland and elsewhere, and requests the bailiwick of the cantref of Aberffraw in Anglesey in return for that service.
Nature of endorsement
The King does not wish to remove anyone from his bailiwick without his Justice of Wales, to whom he granted the power to ordain for the bailiwicks in those parts, as it seems to him is to be done for the King's advantage.
Note
Perhaps another of the petitions formerly enclosed with CCW 1244-1326 p.297, which is dated 18 September 1309? Petitions Relating to Wales p.395 dates the petition to c. 1300-1307, without seeming to give any particular grounds for this. This sort of general date would suit the hand.
