- The petition asks that as Newcastle upon Tyne is in the Scottish March and the greatest salvation of the realm in the north, and that as war appears to be brewing in those parts, Lord Neville might be appointed there, and that he might assign others below him to make a full inspection of the town and the commons there, with a view to its defence.

- Tentatively dated to 1383, with reference to Rot. Scot., vol. II p.55, dated 10 September 1383, which would seem to be the requested appointment. Neville, however, was several times warden of the Scottish Marches.
