Description
Petitioners
Robert le Tyllur (Tyler).
Name(s)
Tyllur (Tyler), Robert
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Robert le Tyllur states that he has been in the castle of Berwick-upon-Tweed and in other places for twenty-four years in the service of the King and of his father, and is still ready to serve him. He asks the King for the bailiwick of Wharfedale in the forest of Knaresborough for term of life.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.
Places mentioned
Berwick-upon-Tweed, [Northumberland]
Wharfedale, [West Riding of Yorkshire]
Knaresborough Forest, [West Riding of Yorkshire].
People mentioned
Edward [I], King of England.
Note
Datable to the reign of Edward II by the reference to the King's father: it probably dates from some years into the reign, as the petitioner says that he has served the current as well as the previous King, but from the hand would seem unlikely to date from after 1320, and probably from well before that.
