Date
[1387]
Description
Petitioners
Gilbert Tylere (Tyler) of Hunton.
Name(s)
Tylere (Tyler), Gilbert
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Gilbert Tylere states that the King granted him his letters under the privy seal to Arnold Savage, James Frogenhale, and William Topclyf, to aid him in the recovery of his wife, adjudged to him by court Christian; but they told him that these letters did not provide sufficient warrant to enter the franchise where she was, without a writ from the Chancellor. He has also been threatened as a result of his suit on this matter, and has spent all he has on this suit, so that he cannot afford to sue further at common law. He requests a writ to Arnold, James and William in accordance with the letters under the privy seal, and also an extension of the protection he currently enjoys for two years.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] Sent to the council.Simon Burleye.[On dorse] Because the King has sent this petition to the council as appears above, the council has assented to the petitioner having protection and other reasonable writs on the matter contained within.
Places mentioned
Hunton, Kent.
People mentioned
Arnold Savage
James Frogenhale
William Topclyf
[Edward of Woodstock], Prince of Wales

Note
CCR 1385-9 p.84 is dated 24 June 1385, p.424 is dated 22 July 1387, and pp.437-8 is dated 14 July 1387. The note on the guard suggesting 'c. 1385' is misleading.
