Nature of request
Richard de Wyvelesle states that as his servants had taken his two horses to water on the morrow of the Trinity, and were bringing them back along the royal highway, Philip Marmyon sent six men at arms out of his castle of Tamworth, who beat the servants and stole the horses, taking them out of Staffordshire to his castle in Warwickshire. When the hue and cry was raised, and Richard and the people of the vill came running, he gave no explanation, but made an attack, drawing blood; and he still has the horses. Richard requests justice, as would be done to a layman in similar case, and that he might have the horses back, or their value.
