Nature of request
Roger de Gaya states that he has served the King and his father for thirty years, but is now without an office, as the King has given his offices to others; and that he has also been captured in the Gascon war. The Bishop of Norwich, the Earl of Richmond and Guy Ferre, who had been sent to Gascony, in consideration of his estate, his reputation, his losses and his age, gave him the office of scribe of Florencia and Montreal under the King should be pleased to provide for him elsewhere. He asks the King to confirm their letters granting this to him, for term of his life.

The requested grant was made, explicitly in response to this petition, on 27 May 1316. John Salmon was Bishop of Norwich between 1299 and 1325, and Guy Ferre was Seneschal of Gascony between October 1300 and February 1301, and between August 1308 and September 1309.
