Description
Petitioners

Name(s)

Addressees
King.
Nature of request
[This petition is badly damaged and partly illegible] Peter, Lord of Greilly, Viscount of Benauge and Castillon sur Dordogne, makes at least five requests:1) He states that Edward I gave his grandfather the vicomte of Benauge and Castillon sur Dordogne, and that Bernard, Arnold and William de Securo, and others from this vicomte, are refusing to do the homage and services they owe to Bernard de Bonivilla. He asks that they might be compelled to do so, and to obey the Viscount as they ought.2) He states that Edward I gave his grandfather complete jurisdiction over Ste-Croix-des-Monts, annexing it to the vicomte of Benauge and Castillon sur Dordogne, but that because of a dispute over this, it was taken into the King's hand. He requests the King's letters patent to the Seneschal of Gascony, that if he can find that this is as he has said, he might have this jurisdiction, as his grandfather's heir.3) He makes a complaint concerning customs and vineyards belonging to his wife, Assalita, sister and heir of Peter de Bordeaux et Captal [de Buch].4) He requests letters patent in another matter concerning jurisdiction in l'Isle [St George].5) [Only a fragment remains]
Nature of endorsement
The Seneschal of Gascony is to be ordered to inform himself on all the petitions contained in this schedule, by inquisition etc. if necessary, and by other ways and means etc; and he is to inform the King of what he has found, together with his advice on the same.
