Nature of request
Writ from Edward II to Glyncarny, Keeper of the lands and tenements which belonged to Humphrey de Bohun, Earl of Hereford and Essex in Netherwent in Wales, or his lieutenant, enclosing a petition from Gruffudd Seysel and Dyddgu his wife, and Richard le Feure and Clemence his wife, claiming that Gruffudd Fitz Leycen Morgan and Lettice his wife have disseised them of certain tenements in Shirenewton, and asking him to examine this petition and to do justice to the petitioners.
Nature of endorsement
Gilbert de Glyncarny, Keeper of the lands and tenements which belonged to Humphrey de Bohum, Earl of Hereford and Essex in Netherwent in Wales at Caldicot gives this answer: that all suitors of Caldicot have given this judgment, that Gruffudd Seysel and Dyddgu his wife, and Richard le Feure and Clemence his wife, plaintiffs, ought not to answer in a plea of free land against Gruffudd Fitz Leycen Morgan and Lettice his wife, by this precept, by custom of the manor of Caldicot, because they have had a chancery from time immemorial; and whoever is the lord of the manor, his writ holds in any plea. The suitors also say that the manor is in the hand of the King, and the King's writ holds and is current.
