Date

Description
Petitioners
John Colum (Colom).
Name(s)
Colum (Colom), John
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
John Colum makes three petitions:1) On behalf of his brother, William Raymond Colum, he states that the compensation for the loss of his lands, taken by the French when William Raymond was in the King's service, granted by Edmund, Earl of Kent, is not sufficient to support him and his wife, and asks that William Raymond might be granted the lands in the Bordelais formerly belonging to the Lord of Noylan, in compensation for his losses.2) He states that the Constable of Bordeaux granted him and William Raymond the castellany and bailiwick of Talmount-sur-Gironde in payment of a sum lent by them, but that the town has risen up against the King, so that they have had not profit from it. They request compensation.3) He asks the King to order the Constable of Bordeaux to allow a sum of money owed by the King to the late John Colum de Rue Nove, their father, for his service, against a sum owed to the King by William Raymond Colum for offices he holds in the Duchy, taking their letter patent for the money owed to their father.
Nature of endorsement
[On face:]1) When the King comes to those parts, he will have such consideration for William's service that he should reasonably consider himself satisfied, and in the meantime he is to bear it patiently.2) John should be told to bear this patiently until the coming of the King, and then the King will have a suitable payment or assignment ordained for him. 3) The constable is to be ordered that if William Raymond shows him a sufficient deed of the King, by which the King owes him the said sum, he is to make him an allowance for this sum in the debts which he owes the King. [On dorse:]Columb by the Lord Chancellor.
