Reference
SC 8/233/11633
Date
[c. 1319]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas de Grey.
Name(s)
de Grey, Thomas
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Grey requests the grant of his daughter's marriage, he paying as much as any other, and that the king will command Bures by his letters to take an oath from Avice not to marry without licence of the king or Grey.
Nature of endorsement
The king has granted this petition at the request of Lord Roger Damory.
People mentioned
Avice [Fitz Eustace], widow of Thomas Fitz Eustace, and daughter of the petitioner
Thomas Fitz Eustace, late husband of Avice Fitz Eustace
Robert de Bures
Roger Damory.
Note
The petition dates to c. 1319 as entries in the close rolls relating to Amice Fitz Eustace's dower date to 17th and 18th of January 1319 (CCR 1318-23, pp.51, 121). In addition Avice Fitz Eustace was granted a licence to marry whomsoever she wished on 20 January 1319, a licence that must be close in date to this petition, and seems totally to contradict the response to the petition (CFR 1307-19, p.390).
