Note
The copy of the charter dates to c. 1311 with the petition to which it was formerly attached. The charter is dated in its dating clause to 8 July 1199 (1 John). John's itinerary states that he was at Argentan on 7 July and Falaise on 8 July, suggesting that 'Canenon' lay between the two. Occagnes, 5km north-west of Argentan and directly on the road to Falaise, appears the most likely identification. Unfortunately the part of the charter roll covering the first two months of John's reign appears to be missing, but the grant is mentioned in a further charter from later that month (T.D. Hardy (ed.), 'Rotuli Chartarum in Turri Londinensi asservati', vol. I, Part 1, p.6).
