Coychurch requests remedy as he and his predecessors as archdeacons have possessed all manner of ordinary jurisdiction that pertains to their office in all the parish churches, prebends and other benefices of the church and other places in the archdeaconry extending to visitations, corrections of crimes, cognisance of causes and inductions of persons admitted by the bishop, but in the time of Edward III it was claimed that the chapel of Hastings with its prebends was a royal free chapel, which it is not, and Coychurch and his predecessors have been kept out of their rightful jurisdiction by royal prohibition.
