Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/231/11511
Date
[? c. 1387]
Description
Petitioners
Geoffrey Boulde of Lancashire.
Name(s)
Boulde, Geoffrey
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Boulde requests that the Talbots and Caterall be commanded to appear before the king at a certain day to answer for the robbery and extortion committed against him considering that he cannot support the costs suing them at the common law. The Talbots and Caterall came to his house in Darwen with others and by force and arms took his cattle into Yorkshire and still detain them, and when he was before the justices of Lancaster they came and took more of his livestock.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Places mentioned
Lancashire
Nether Derwent (Darwen), Lancashire
Yorkshire.
People mentioned
Thomas Talbot, knight
Edmund Talbot
John Caterall.
Note
The petition is dated to? c. 1387 in accordance with the guard note. The petition has an old Chancery Files no. endorsed on it, and 594, according to the guard note, dates to 7-11 Hen. VI. The petition is clearly not of this date, so that the guard note's suggestion that the petition was originally wrongly in that Chancery File is probably correct. The petition refers to events around Martinmas in the 10th year of the king's reign, and the hand does seem most likely to be that of 10 Ric. II in accordance with the guard note.
