Note
The petition is dated to 1414-1418 as it clearly refers to the king's ambassadors to the council of Constance that was held between these years. See also VCH, Yorks, vol. III, p.136, for a discussion of the disputed election of the abbot. The petition is noted as coming from Chancery Files 538 which would usually indicate a petition of date around 1409-1410. It is possible that this is an error for Chancery Files 548.
